Who We Are &
What We Stand For

The Sierra Leone Community of New Jersey — uniting our diaspora through culture, pride, and accountability.

"
If I hit you today and come back within one year and you are still on the floor — it is on you. We as citizens have a role to play to make Sierra Leone a better place. Not only to see negative things, not only to talk bad about the government — we also have a role to play.
— Abdul H. Gabisi, Interim Chairman, SLCNJ

Our Mission

The Sierra Leone Community of New Jersey (SLCNJ) exists to unite, uplift, and celebrate Sierra Leoneans living in New Jersey and across the United States.

We believe in showcasing the beauty, talent, and resilience of our people — not as a response to negative narratives, but as a joyful affirmation of who we are and what we carry from Mama Salone.

Our 65th Independence celebration is a statement: Sierra Leone is extraordinary, and her children in America carry that greatness with them every day.

Our Values

🦁

Pride Without Apology

We showcase Sierra Leone's achievements, culture, and people with unapologetic pride in who we are and where we come from.

🤝

Community Accountability

We hold ourselves responsible for uplifting each other and actively contributing to Mama Salone's progress — not just observing.

📚

Celebrating Excellence

Our authors, professionals, entrepreneurs, and scholars deserve to be seen. This celebration puts them center stage.

🌍

Bridge Between Worlds

We connect the Sierra Leonean diaspora in America with their roots, culture, and with each other.
